Dear Parents and Students:
I graduated from Texas Tech University in 1980 with a degree in secondary education. I also have a master’s degree in education from Hardin-Simmons University. I have enjoyed my 20 years of teaching in the Abilene Independent School District. Fifteen of those years were at Cooper High School. I came to Clack Middle School in 2001.
In 7th grade language arts, the bar has been set high for the students. We will be focusing our efforts on improving students' reading, grammatical, and writing skills. Students will be introduced to the six writing traits (ideas, organization, conventions, word choice, sentence fluency, and voice). At the same time, students will be reading novels and an assortment of short stories during the year. The goal is to encourage a love of reading as well as to develop the students' understanding of plot, character development, and other literary techniques. The task before our students is challenging, but it is possible to succeed through commitment and perseverance. I expect the very best effort the students have to offer.
Although it’s difficult for many students to believe, teachers have a life outside of the school building. I am a wife and a mother. My husband and I have been married 25 years. He is a partner in an advertising agency in Abilene. Our son Jim is 13 years old and is a student at Madison Middle School. We also have a daughter, Katie, who is 3 years old. My interests outside of school include church activities, “home improvement,” and gardening.
If you have any questions or need to contact me, my team period is 9-9:55 A.M.
Sincerely,
Teresa Woodard
