The fifth six weeks has begun, and the second semester is well underway.

Chapters Studied During The Fifth Six Weeks |

Chapter 2: Introduction to Atoms.
This chapter discusses the atom. In this chapter, students learn about the history of the atom including those who created and modified the atomic theory.
Students will also review the parts of the atom. There will be two labs during this chapter. |

Chapter 3: Understanding the Periodic Table.
Students learn about the periodic table,who created it, the modifications to, and the current periodic table. This chapter will be covered in depth. Students will learn about characteristics, groups and families, and how to read all the information on the periodic table. There will be one lab during this chapter. |

Chapter 4: Chemical Compounds. Students will learn how elements combine to form chemical compounds. Students will also be learning about ionic and covalent compounds, acids, bases, salts, and end with organic compounds. There will be two labs during this chapter. |

Chapter 5: Chemical Reactions. Students will learn how elements and compounds combine to form new substances.
Students will be learning how to read and solve chemical equations. Most students grasp this concept quickly because we complete lab activites designed to reinforce equations. In this chapter we also will be discussing exothermic and endothemic reactions as well as specific heat. There will be two labs during this chapter. |

During the fifth six weeks, the 8th grade science classes will be stepping up our TAKS review. Students will be given alot of review materials. Please help us by reviewing these with your children. This will end the fifhh six weeks course of study. |
